World Refugee Day is Friday, June 20th, a date chosen in 2000 by the United Nations to honor “the courage, strength and determination of women, men and children who are forced to flee their homes under threat of persecution, conflict and violence.” Several organizations in Kansas City are planning events to celebrate the day this year.
Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas will host a World Refugee Day Celebration on Saturday, June 14th from 2pm to 6pm, at 2220 Central Avenue, Kansas City, Kansas 66102. The event will include entertainment, food, games, yoga, and recognition of the achievements of refugees in our community.
